In response to a call from a member of the public who had seen a flare, H/H coastguard requested Conwy ILB to go and investigate. Directed by the police helicopter using thermal imaging the ILB

found a RIB with 2 males aboard, they had apparently hit a sandbank and been thrown into the water, they were able to get back into the vessel but were suffering from hypothermia, they were then transferred from Conwy ILB to the SEA king rescue helicopter and taken to hospital. Conwy

ILB then towed the casualty to a pontoon berth and returned to station.

Holyhead Coastguard requested Conwy ILB to go to the assistance of a Motorboat with steering difficulties in danger of drifting onto sandbanks, after arriving on scene the ILB put a crew member aboard the casualty and took the vessel in tow, it soon became apparent that a mistake by the owner of the boat had led to a malfunction of the auto helm after this was rectified the vessel was able to continue on its passage and the ILB returned to station.

H/H coastguard requested the Conwy ILB go to the assistance of a motor boat with engine failure, after arriving on scene the crew found the vessel to be at anchor with two persons on board. The

ILB took the casualty in tow and proceeded to take it in to Conwy. During the tow a member of the

ILB crew was able to re-start the casualties’ engine. The ILB then escorted the casualty into Conwy.

After ensuring the vessel was safe on its mooring the ILB returned to station.

H/H Coastguard requested Conwy ILB to go to the assistance of a sailing boat with engine failure,

The ILB found the casualty at anchor, and then towed the vessel up the channel and into the

Marina. After making sure it was secure, the ILB returned to station.

Following a request from H/H Coastguard Conwy ILB went to the Fairway buoy to take over the tow of a 23ft speedboat which had been towed to the Fairway buoy from Puffin Island by the Beaumaris

Lifeboat. On going alongside the casualty and assessing the situation the crew of the Conwy ILB managed to free the rope which had fouled the casualty's prop the casualty then re started his engine and the ILB then escorted the casualty into Conwy Marina. The ILB then returned to station.

H/H Coastguard requested Conwy ILB to go to the assistance of a fisherman and his dog cut off by

the tide, the casualty had contacted the emergency services by mobile phone, and when the ILB arrived he was very concerned by the rising water, the ILB then took him and his dog onboard and returned to station, where the casualty was safely put ashore.

H/H Coastguard Requested Conwy ILB to go to the assistance of a lady who had attempted to rescue her dog from the end of a rocky Groyne, the casualty had rescued the dog, but was herself having great difficulty in getting back over the rocks safely. The ILB took them on board and put them safely ashore, the ILB then returned to station.

Incident #1

H/H Coastguard requested the ILB to go to the assistance of a motor boat with engine failure. On arriving at the scene the ILB found casualty at anchor. The ILB then took the casualty in tow.

During the tow a crew member was able to restart the engine. The ILB then escorted the casualty

into Deganwy Marina. The ILB was then diverted to a further incident.

Incident #2

H/H coastguard diverted Conwy ILB to go to the assistance of a power boat reportedly on fire, a

member of the public had reported to the emergency services that a motor boat was in trouble up

river with smoke pouring out of the engine. After a thorough search of the area nothing was found

and it was assumed the vessel had taken care of the situation, after a further search and

discussion with Holyhead coastguard the ILB returned to station.

H/H Coastguard requested the Conwy ILB to go to the assistance of two people who had fallen off

their jet ski. After arriving on scene the casualties had made their way to shore, the ILB crew took the two casualties aboard the ILB and because of the location it was decided to take the casualties and the jet ski to a safe location at the beacons jetty. After making sure they were safe and secure the ILB returned to station.

H/H Coastguard requested Conwy ILB to go to the assistance of two people cut off by the tide, when the ILB arrived on scene it was found no assistance was required, and the ILB returned to station.


26/06/10 @ 11:35

H/H Coastguard requested the ILB go to a vessel which was reported to be taking on water. On arrival at the scene the ILB found the casualty to be taking on water through a broken engine cooling water pipe. The ILB crew were able to repair the leak but for safety reasons the ILB towed the casualty with its passengers back to Conwy marina. After securing the vessel and making sure the passengers were safely ashore the ILB returned to station.


27/06/10 @ 13:08

H/H Coastguard requested Conwy ILB to go to the assistance of a small motor boat with engine failure. When the ILB arrived on scene the casualty was found to be drifting out to sea. The ILB took the vessel in tow, after taking the crew onboard the lifeboat, and putting a lifeboat crew member aboard the casualty. The ILB then towed the vessel to the beacons jetty, and after making sure the boat was secure and the crew safely ashore the ILB returned to station.

H/H Coastguard requested Conwy ILB to go to the assistance of a R.I.B. with engine failure, after arriving on scene it was found that the outboard engine had been swamped, and would not restart, the ILB took them in tow to the beacons jetty, and after making sure the casualty vessel was secure and the occupants safely ashore the ILB returned to station.


24/07/10 @ 10:18

In response to a member of the public reporting a distress flare, H/H coastguard requested Conwy

ILB to go and investigate. On arriving at the casualty it was discovered that the engine had broken down and the vessel was drifting ashore, the ILB took the vessel in tow and, took it and its crew to the beacons jetty, after making sure everything was secure the ILB returned to station.


24/07/10 @ 20:12

H/H Coastguard contacted the DLA by landline and requested that Conwy ILB took over from Beaumaris in escorting a vessel that had been de-masted. The crew were paged and the ILB proceeded to the Fairway Buoy to take over the escort, the casualty was able to proceed with her auxiliary engine.

Conwy escorted the vessel to the marina, and after making sure the 6 crew members were safely ashore and the boat was secure, the ILB returned to station.

H/H Coastguard requested Conwy ILB to go to the assistance of a yacht that was taking on water, when the ILB arrived on scene they found that the problem was with the cooling system on the engine, the ILB then towed the casualty to the marina and after making sure the vessel and occupants were secure they returned to station.

H/H Coastguard requested Conwy ILB to go to the assistance of a yacht in the channel with engine failure, the ILB duly arrived on scene and proceeded to tow the vessel into Conwy marina, after making sure the casualty and its crew were safe, the ILB returned to station.


08/08/10 @ 13:00

Holyhead Coastguard requested the ILB to go to the assistance of a yacht which had broken down in the vicinity of Puffin Island.

On reaching the casualty it was found in a position two miles from where it was reported to be.

The ILB took the vessel in tow and proceeded to take him into Conwy Harbour. After making sure the vessel and its occupant was safely secured and ashore the ILB returned to station.

16/08/10 @ 23:35

H/H Coastguard requested Conwy ILB to go to the assistance of a yacht with steering difficulties. When the ILB arrived on scene the problem was a damaged rudder, the casualty was unsure of his position and the ILB had asked him to deploy a flare to pin point his position. The vessel had been anchored from the stern, and all the rigging was still flying, this was put down to fatigue by the elderly skipper. the crew of the ILB made the vessel secure and towed it into Conwy marina. After making sure the skipper and vessel were secure in the marina the ILB returned to station.


22/08/10 @ 20:22

H/H Coastguard requested Conwy ILB to go to the assistance of a power boat with engine failure, after reaching the vessel it was found to be continuing its passage on 1 engine but was finding it difficult to manoeuvre, the ILB escorted the casualty up the river and into Deganwy Marina and after assisting with its berthing the ILB returned to station.


30/08/10 @ 13:45

H/H Coastguard requested the ILB to go to the assistance of a boat which had broken down near the

Conwy no4 channel buoy. On arriving at the casualty the ILB found that there was a problem with the fuel system .The ILB put a line on to the vessel and proceeded to tow it in to conwy marina. On arrival at the marina the boat was made safe and the people on board were put ashore. The ILB then returned to station.


02/09/10 @ 15:45

H/H Coastguard requested the ILB go to the assistance of a motor boat which had an engine fire in the Conwy channel. On reaching the casualty the crew found that the fire had been put out. The vessel was towed in to Conwy marina and after putting the one person ashore the ILB returned to station.


05/09/10 @ 09:03

H/H Coastguard requested that the ILB go to look at a dinghy which had been seen drifting in the

Conwy River near Deganwy point. On arriving at the scene the dinghy was fuond to be empty. There

were no oars or rowlocks in the dinghy .After searching the area  and the crew were sure everything was okay the dinghy was towed ashore and made safe. The ILB then returned to station.


14/09/10 @ 02:25

H/H Coastguard requested Conwy ILB to go to the assistance of a motor boat that had been stolen and later abandoned on the shore at Deganwy point. Breaking onshore seas were pushing the boat hard on to the shore.When the ILB arrived on scene it was found that one engine was running but nobody appeared to be on board. The ILB put one of the crew aboard. The police and coast guard were on the shore and after some time the owner of the vessel was located.

When the owner arrived on scene the ILB put him aboard. He managed to start his second engine. The

ILB then put a line to his bow and after several attempts managed to pull his bow off the shore. With the ILB pulling and the owner going full ahead on his engines the boat eventually came off the shore. The ILB then escorted the vessel into Conwy Marina where the boat was made secure. The ILB then returned to station.

H/H Coastguard requested Conwy ILB to go to the assistance of a sailing boat with engine failure, having difficulty in the narrow channel into Conwy, the ILB arrived on scene and a crew member was able to start the engine, the ILB then escorted the casualty up the channel and onto a pontoon berth, after making the vessel and occupants secure the ILB returned to station.


29/12/10 @ 13:10

H/H Coastguard requested Conwy ILB to go to the assistance of 4 people cut off by the tide, when the ILB arrived on scene, the casualties had been escorted ashore by the Coastguard mobile unit. After making sure the casualties were safe the ILB returned to station.
